Before & After

Stage 1

For this project we had a blank canvas to work with, after gutting the room – with the client focused on maximising the space and having a clean and acoustically sound room where the sound wouldn’t escape.

To achieve this we removed the existing cabinetry and all gyprock in the room. This was replaced with sound insulation batts in the wall cavity, as well as a solid core door. We also removed and replaced the old carpet, gave the room a fresh coat of paint and installed floor-to-ceiling velvet curtains to further reduce sound reverberations and pollution.

On the audio side we installed a 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos system with an Epson LS12000 projector pushing the picture to a 110” fixed screen. To power all this a Denon AVC-X3800H AV receiver supplies crisp Dolby Atmos audio to all parts of the room.

Stage 2

How to get perfect sound in home theatre rooms

If you want perfect, crystal clear sound in your home theatre room you first need to understand how sound works.

Sound from your speakers travels in waves or vibrations through the air, which then bounce off any ‘hard’ surfaces in the room. These could be the walls, floor, door, ceiling, windows and objects like furniture or cabinetry.

Walls, floors and ceilings are a big problem as they cause something called ‘standing waves’, which is when sound waves continue to bounce off these surfaces and distort your bass and lower midrange frequencies. This also makes certain notes louder and others much quieter. This can lead to unclear dialogue, harsh treble, ‘booming’ bass and echo.

This is why we install acoustic panels, fabric walls, sound batts and even carpets and thick curtains – which can all help reduce these waves or sonic vibrations. Acoustic batts in the walls also help to prevent these sound waves from passing through into other parts of the home.

Audio visual highlights of this installation…

Denon AVC-X3800H receiver

The Denon AVC-X3800H delivers stunning audio quality with its 9-channel amplifier and support for the latest audio formats, including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D. It also features versatile connectivity, with multiple HDMI inputs, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Apple AirPlay 2 support. We also love the user-friendly interface, with a large and intuitive display, easy-to-use remote control, making it simple to control and customise your home theatre experience.

Grandview 120” Fixed Acoustical screen

Install a Grandview 120” Fixed Acoustical screen and you will never miss the action! This screen has a unique woven structure which is 4K compatible for the truest, most vivid and dynamic images. It is also an acoustical screen, which means the fabric helps to absorb sound in the room, not reflect it. Reflections are the enemy of any home cinema, and soft surfaces like this – as well as curtains and carpeting, help to minimise muddied audio.
